Fascination with research and technology

28.07.14

Things were happening at the former campus of the International University. Together with the two event partners – the city of Bruchsal and Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Technology and Business, SEW‑EURODRIVE used the opportunity to present the joint research campus to the public on Saturday July 26, 2014.

Information day on the SEW‑EURODRIVE research campus

On May 1, 2012, SEW-EURODRIVE and the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences, Technology and Business, one of the strongest research universities for applied sciences in Baden-Württemberg, founded a joint research campus on the grounds of the former International University in Bruchsal. The two partners finally sealed the cooperation on the topic of energy-efficient mobility by signing the contract on November 19, 2012. The aim is to closely connect research and application on the campus of the former International University in Bruchsal and to combine the existing competencies of both partners.

About 100 employees and 40 students and interns from SEW‑EURODRIVE currently work at the campus. Innovation project groups and expert groups are working on innovative solutions for topics such as control engineering, energy management, intralogistics, material flow, alternative gearing technology, object recognition, radio and navigation as well as software and control technology.

Many visitors at the information day seized the opportunity to take a look behind the scenes in the area of research at SEW‑EURODRIVE. Laboratories, facilities, projects and experiments were shown. In terms of content, the motto for the event was “Forward-thinking mobility concepts for intralogistics, urban logistics and much more.”

Following the welcome speeches by Mr. Soder (managing director for technology at SEW‑EURODRIVE), Prof. Dr. Meisel (director of the Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences) and Ms. Petzold-Schick (Mayor of Bruchsal), employees from the area of research brought technology to life for the visitors by means of lectures and presentations, exhibitions and hands-on activities. Lecture topics such as “Logistics with building blocks – new logistics concepts from SEW,” “The energy transition” as well as “Driving the racing simulator,” “Human-AGV duel” (AGV = automated guided vehicle) and studies from the field of urban electric mobility provided those interested in technology with lots to choose from.
